Dr. (Mrs.) Sukanya Yayati (47), a Medical graduate from Hyderabad, presently settled
in the USA, relates a few of her experiences of the Divinity of Bhagavan in her
own words.
'In 1980, my father brought a magnetic sticker of the photograph of Shirdi Sai Baba
and put it on the almyrah in my room. I used to see Baba the moment I awoke daily
in those days. I got married in May the same year. After doing House Surgeon at
Hyderabad, I left for the USA in March 1982. My marriage soon ended in divorce.
My father presented me a copy of Sai Saccharitra and a photograph of Sri Sathya
Sai Baba. I completed the parayanam of the book in a week. I was supposed to offer
food at least to one person. I did not know whom to call for lunch. Just then a
Muslim boy studying Mechanical Engineering in the US came to my house. I offered
him lunch and felt happy that Baba fulfilled the customary practice happily.
Soon after that, my would-be-husband saw me in the temple of Vinayaka in Chicago.
I was married to him in 1984.
My first son was born in 1985, and my second son was born in 1989. When the second
boy was less than one year old, he fell down from the basement on the concrete below.
The basement was so high that it had to be reached by a flight of 12 steps. There
was a bruise on his forehead. Doctors were afraid of a head injury. He was kept
in observation for 48 hours and later declared 'ok'. His survival is due only to
the grace of Bhagavan.
The same boy got both his hands fractured in January 2004 when he went for a skiing
round. He was brought home, and did not get medical attention for more then 24 hours.
We put vibhuti and took him to the hospital only the next day. The doctors reprimanded
us for the delay in bringing the boy to the hospital and bandaged both his hands.
Curiously, he did not complain of any pain. His hands healed completely and no problem
came later also, owing to Swami's grace.
In 2003, Mr. Bhaskara Sarma of Hyderabad came to the USA and performed Sita-vratam
in a devotee's house. The host-devotee invited me as one of the nine ladies required
for pooja. After the pooja, one lady sitting by my side told me that kumkum emanated
on the fruits in the plate kept before me. In that vratam it is customary to keep
nine each of nine varieties of fruits in a plate before each of the nine ladies
invited to participate. Similarly nine each of nine varieties of flowers also are
kept. That day kumkum emanated on all fruits.
Next Friday Mr. Sarma performed the same vratam in another house. They also invited
me. I took with me a small photograph of Sri Sathya Sai Baba and kept it in the
plate before me. At the end of the pooja I found that the hair of Bhagavan in the
periphery of the photograph turned white as if vibhuti emanated on the hair. The
photograph itself turned white.
On the next Friday Mr. Sarma performed vratam in another acquaintance's house. They
also invited me. It was raining heavily with thunders all over. It was risky to
go out driving in that weather for fear of visibility being poor. I was confident
that the rain would abate in 20 minutes to enable me reach the venue of vratam on
time. Exactly after 20 minutes the rain and thunder ceased. I could go to the venue
safely. I forgot to bring Bhagavan's photograph. When I was doing Namaskar, kumkum
fell from above. I could not see. 'I have not seen kumkum emanate', I prayed silently.
'Let me see also'. kumkum emanated again. I prayed for prasadam. Honey began to
ooze from my hand as I held Bhagavan's photograph in my hand. I sipped it off.
On the next Friday, we invited Mr. Sarma to our house to perform the vratam. I put
a full size photograph of Shirdi Sai and also that of Sri Sathya Sai, and began
pooja. Milk began to pour out of Sri Sathya Sai Photograph as I was praying in my
mind for panchamrutam. Vibhuti emanated. kumkum emanated on my forehead. One of
the ladies whom I invited got Aum in rice plate; another got a pearl. Like that
each of the nine except one got something or the other. The lady who got nothing
began to cry with disappointment. I prayed to Bhagavan for her and kumkum came in
her plate. She felt happy.
Besides, there was haldi and kumkum (dot) in all flowers. When I took an apple to
place in that pooja, it used to turn into yellow colour signifying, to my mind,
the arrival of the Mother-goddess. This miracle has continued. Even now when I sit
in pooja and take a green mango or an apple, it turns into thick yellow in colour.
On the day when Sita-vratam was performed in my house, flowers in my garden, flowers
in the car and all flowers in the house had yellow colour with red dot. One lady
asked 'have you examined what that yellow colour is on the flowers?' 'No! I have
not', I replied, 'I do not doubt. So I do not scrutinise or examine. If you want,
you do it.' There was a garland of white flowers, which turned yellow in the centre
with a red dot. She touched that garland to examine the flowers. The entire garland
of white flowers then turned black.
On Thursday, that is, a day before the vratam, I put some coronation flowers in
pooja. When I went to remove them on Friday as they were worn out, four petals in
each bloomed afresh in all those flowers. On the door of our pooja room, honey emanated.
On Vijaya Dasami day, I prayed to Bhagavan in my pooja-mandir for vibhuti. I found
vibhuti in the flowers I used in pooja.'
-- Dr. (Mrs.) Sukanya Yayati.
