Mr. K.N. Sarma (81), freedom fighter who retired
as an official of the I & PR Department in AP, relates a few of his experiences
of the Divinity of Bhagavan in his own words.
'In 1953, I indulged in transport business and became literally broke. In 1959,
I applied as a freedom fighter for a job in Government. One of my acquaintances
who was a devotee of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba told me that I would get a government
job. 'The chances are almost nil' I replied, 'if I really get the job, I will become
a devotee of your Baba.' Within three days I received orders of appointment and
was asked to report for training at Coimbattore. On my way to Coimbottore, I came
to Prasanthi Nilayam. As I was sitting in the verandah, Bhagavan came to me, raised
His hand and blessed. That is how I entered Bhagavan's fold. This was in 1979.
I was at Atmakur in 1965 where my three year old son developed breathing difficulty.
We brought him to Kurnool for a check up. Then I ran into a friend of mine who was
the Sub-Inspector of Police there. With him I went to the house of a gentleman in
Kurnool, where Bhagavan was expected. Bhagavan came and pausing at one person said
'what Dr. Pinakapani? Is your son not listening to your word?' That gentleman was
stunned. He did not meet Bhagavan earlier. How could Bhagavan know that he was Dr.
Pinakapani? Bhagavan then paused at a young man and said 'be obedient to your father
and mother.' He is the son of Dr. Pinakapani. I was very much surprised to see all
this. Then Swami came to me and asked 'how is the child?' It was difficult for me
to control tears. 'My son's health is not good Swami!' I said. Swami smiled and
blessed. I ran out to go to the hospital and bring my son to show him to Bhagavan.
By the time I reached the hospital, my son was OK. He was playing. 'Suddenly, blood
came out of his nose' my wife explained, 'along with it came out a piece of bengal-gram.
The blood also stopped and the wound was healed. The boy was normal. I thanked Bhagavan
for His leela.
In 1967, I was working at Yemmiganur. We were seven people who came to Prasanthi
Nilayam as a group. At the darshan line, Bhagavan called us all for an interview.
At the interview, Bhagavan was explaining how one had to experience the fruits of
one's doings, that is, karma. Being young, I said 'Swami we came to you because
you are God who can write off karma. When you say all this, what is the use?' When
I said like this, everyone was stunned. They all thought that Bhagavan would be
angry. But Bhagavan came to me as I stood there and hugged me with love. 'I am happy
you spoke frankly' Swami said, 'you will come up in life.' I felt humbled when He
treated me with love in spite of my foolish out-spoken comments.
In May 2000, I underwent open heart surgery. Doctors were not sure of the outcome
because I was an aged diabetic susceptible for several problems. I was brought to
the ICU after surgery. I was in sedation. The surgeon was keeping a vigil on my
bed side. As I was regaining consciousness, I was hearing Omkaram as if I was in
Prasanthi Nilayam. It was exactly 5 a.m. at that time.
'If you want to listen to any devotional music' the surgeon asked me, 'we can arrange
it.'
'I am right now hearing Omkaram in Prasanthi Nilayam' I replied, 'it shows Bhagavan
is with me.' Doctor heaved a sigh and said 'that explains how the surgery went off
without any complications.'
In 2005, I had a severe bout of bronchial asthma. Though I was cured to a large
extent, the cough and flem persisted. My wife did not visit Prasanthi Nilayam till
that time though I had the good fortune to visit Prasanthi Nilayam a few times.
So, I decided to bring her here. My son who retired from the Army as Lt. Colonel
had no faith in Bhagavan. He was not favourable to our going on this long trip alone
in our advanced age. But we both started setting aside the objections of our people.
As I had pass for second AC travel in the Railways as a freedom fighter, we got
into the second AC coach. My wife was apprehensive that I might get an attack of
asthma because of the air conditioning. 'Bhagavan is there' I told my wife, 'He
will take care of us.' My wife woke me up when we reached the Prasanthi Nilayam
Railway Station. I slept very well. 'You have not slept so well and so peacefully
for the last several years. No cough at all' my wife remarked.
I wanted to meet an old colleague of mine. I was told that he was residing at Prasanthi
Nilayam. I did not know his address.
I was standing on the pavement and enquiring about him when my colleague came just
at that time that way providentially and took us to his house.'
