Mr. G. Rangachari (75), Tax Consultant and Karimnagar
District President of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization, relates a few of his experiences
of the Divinity of Bhagavan in his own words.
'I heard of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba from one of my friends for the first time
in 1984.
In 1986, I came to Prasanthi Nilayam for the first time. As there were no facilities
to stay at Prasanthi Nilayam, we stayed at Anantapur and used to come for darshan
by car and return for the night to Anantapur. My wife vowed that we would come again
for darshan if our son Lekha Raj passed the entrance exam to CA and get married
to a good alliance. In January 1987, a friend telephoned to tell us that my son
failed in the exam. Till then, results were not out. Surprisingly, he passed when
the results came in the same month. He could pass because there was an unexpected
change in the criteria to secure a pass, in the last minute. We thought that it
could happen only owing to the grace of Bhagavan. So, we came to Prasanthi Nilayam
again in June 1987 to redeem my wife's vow.
I used to suffer from severe stomach-ache in those days. Whenever I attended bhajans,
I used to get relief from my stomach-ache after two or three songs were over and
did not get the pain till the bhajan was over. In 1988, I had to go to Hyderabad
on some work when I had an attack of loose motions. I suffered for three days. I
used to pray to Swami intensely. On the third day, I had a dream in which Swami
appeared. 'Take this avakaya badda' He told me, 'eat it'. If ate any spicy-food
or food with chilli powder, my condition would aggravate. But Swami wanted me to
eat avakaya which contains chilli powder. What to do? Reposing faith in Swami, I
ate it in my dream. I also saw Sai Gita, pet elephant of Swami in my dream. Next
day, my stomach-ache disappeared. No loose motions. I felt as if rejuvenated overnight.
In 1989, we came for seva at the time of Swami's Birthday. We were deputed to clean
'gosala in Gokulam. I am not generally used to carry water, but during seva I carried
a number of buckets of water. I thought that I would surely get bodily pains and
even temperature. Some one gave me one laddu prasadam. I kept it on the table in
a hotel and was taking coffee. I wanted to eat it later. After I finished my coffee,
I noticed that the laddu was missing. There was no scope of anyone taking it while
I was sitting there. 'I don't have praptham' I thought and let the matter rest there.
After sometime, I came to that hotel again for coffee. I was about to get up when
I noticed a large-sized laddu in the very place where the laddu, which was missing
in the day, had been kept by me. It is not the size we find usually anywhere in
these parts. I enquired people sitting nearby if it was theirs. They replied in
the negative. So I took it and distributed some of it then and there as prasadam
to those sitting there. The balance I ate. I do not generally eat much of laddu
as it would not agree with my stomach noted for indigestion. But that day I ate
the balance of laddu which was equal in quantity to seven laddus of normal size
as if I were possessed. That night, miraculously, I slept well. No indigestion!
No bodily pains as anticipated by me! It was Swami's grace.
In 1990, my son was blessed with a son. We christened him Satya Deepa Raj. One of
the devotee-friends told me 'nice. You have named him after Satyam', Swami's abode
at Mumbai.
Ranga Raj, another grandson of mine applied for a seat in Swami's school at Muddanahalli.
'Do you know any bhajan songs?' they asked him in the interview. 'I know' he replied.
In fact, we never heard him sing any bhajan. He did not earlier attend bhajans seriously.
'Sing' they asked him. He sang. They were pleased and he got a seat. 'I don't know
how I sang the song' Ranga Raj reminisced, 'Swami sang for me.'
At the end of the term they asked him 'what gurudakshina will you give us?' Then
they added 'secure a seat for yourself in Swami's Institute of Higher Learning at
Prasanthi Nilayam. That will be your gurudakshina for us'. Owing to Swami's grace,
he secured a seat and thus 'paid' his gurudakshina.
In 2000, one of my grandsons, Venkata Raj had severe head-ache. In spite of using
medicines there was no relief. Surgery was indicated. We were all anxious about
the outcome of brain surgery. One night Swami came into the dream of the boy. 'Swami
brought some instruments like hammer' Venkata Raj told us the next day, 'Swami materialized
vibhuti and applied to my head. 'This is the anaesthesia' He told me. Then He started
surgery on my brain. I knew what was happening. There was no pain. After sometime,
Swami said 'you are all right now'. He disappeared. I awoke. My headache was gone.'
He did not undergo any surgery or medication after that. His headache has not recurred
till now.'
