Dr. Charanjeet Ghooi, a senior gynaecologist
with specialization in fertility issues, an ardent devotee of Bhagavan, has come
to stay at Prasanthi Nilayam and work in Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital. She records
a few of her experiences in an article published in Arogyapradayini, the Golden
Jubilee publication of Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital, Prasanthi Nilayam released
in August 2006.
'I joined Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital, Prasanthi Nilayam in the year 1999 with
the permission of Bhagavan. I practise integrated medicine, a synthesis of allopathic,
homeopathic, Ayurvedic and Yogic systems of medicine. I am an obstetrician and gynaecologist,
my fort being a fertility clinic. My first research paper was on sterility and infertility,
and its treatment with integrated medicine. In the SSSGH, patients were selected
after tests and treatment started, with 50 to 60% of the patients conceiving. In
Bhopal, where I had worked for many years, the success rate was only 25 to 35%.
This dramatic result is beyond my understanding. Many patients, whom I had rejected
after tests, would insist upon having treatment, and much to my amazement, they
would conceive.
One day, a couple came from Bengal for treatment. The wife was 36 years old and
the husband was 48 years old. They implored me to treat them. I refused, considering
their age and medical unfitness. But they insisted and told me that this was their
14th trip to Puttaparthi to get Bhagavan's blessing. Their belief was that Bhagavan
is God, and He alone could confer progeny. In view of their simple faith, I started
treatment despite all misgivings. They came back some time later and told me their
wonderful experience. Swami had come up to the wife in the darshan hall, and created
vibhuti for her. He stood in front of her till she ate the whole of it. Then, Swami
went to the men's side and blessed the husband with the words that he would have
a baby boy. My sceptical medical mind still doubted, considering their age and medical
reports; but I kept my peace. They took my prescription for the entire course of
three months, and went back home. Two years later, the couple came back with a baby
boy to be blessed by Bhagavan. The treatment came from me, but the child came from
the Supreme Lord.
There is yet another incident. A couple, who had tried unsuccessfully for issues,
came to the clinic on a Saturday. The following day, I saw the couple being called
for an interview with Bhagavan. In the interview, Swami created a chain with a pendant,
and gave it to the husband to put around his wife's neck. Swami chanted mantras
and blessed the couple. Three months later, the wife was pregnant, but she started
to bleed in the 3rd month of pregnancy. At the same time, I had another patient,
who was also having a threatened abortion. Very disturbed, I prayed in front of
Swami's photograph in my room. With tears in my eyes, I asked God to bless both
of them with healthy babies. That night, Swami came in my dream and said that, while
in the first case, the conception was complicated by a uterine fibroid (a benign
tumour of the uterine muscle), the second was a malformed foetus. Subsequently,
ultra-sonography was done and the diagnosis, which Swami had given in both cases,
was proved right. Ultimately both aborted. Both of them restarted treatment. Later,
the first couple was blessed with a baby boy.
Another patient came for treatment with her husband. The investigations showed a
very low sperm count and it was not amenable to treatment. Once again, they insisted
that treatment be started and they took it for six months. During this period, I
happened to be sitting near this patient during darshan. Swami came and created
vibhuti for her, and then looked at me as if to say 'I am the one who grants boons,
who are you to refuse or accept?' They are now blessed with a baby boy.
I have learnt this precious lesson working here at His Lotus Feet - 'I am only the
instrument. He is the true doer.'
